表示“最终”、“最后”的常用短语

in theend主要有两个用法。1）与将来时态连用，表示未来最终的状态或期待的结
果。2）指经过许多变化、困难或捉摸不定的情况之后“最后”，“终于”才出现的结
果，多用于过去时态。这一用法与 at last 相似，有时可以换用。
1）Ihope that everything will turn out all right in theend.
我希望一切最终都会顺利。
2）Evildoersare bound to be punished in the end.
做坏事的人到头来总会遭报应的。
3）If you can persist inthis way you will succeed in the program in theend.
如果你能这样坚持下去，这个项目你最终一定会成功。
4）Heworked harder than before, and he passed the English examinationin the
end / at last.
他比以前学习更加努力，终于通过了英语考试。

atlast指经过周折、等待、耽搁后“最后”，“终于”得到所期待的结果，语气比较强
烈，相当于finally 的用法。
1）After a longhesitation, he told the truth of the matter atlast.
踌躇了半天，他终于说出了事情的真相。
2）Atlast she heard from her little daughter, but she spentmany a sleepless
night before she did.
她终于得到小女儿的消息，但她度过了许多个不眠之夜。
3）After he talked about itwith his wife for a long time, he at lastdecided
to accept the job.

4）The project has beengoing on for months but at last we can see thelight

atlength指经历一段长时间后终于发生的事或出现的结果，语义上同atlast，不过更
强调的是时间概念。
