A few days ago, on the great ceremony of the 60th anniversary of our mother nation, unlike most young people amazing at all the advanced weapons, I was greatly impressed by the military parades. The culture of an army and the spirit of Chinese soldier never change no matter how modernized we are. On the mid-autumn day, unlike others playing QQ games on the internet, I spent time with my family. The long lasting tradition and a time to share can never be replaced by any technology. When viewing the topic “Culture smart or science intelligent “, I would like to say, culture is the soul of science, and smart culture makes science intelligent. Everyone has a soul for himself, and Culture is the soul of a country, to start the development of a country, start from value and realize our own culture.
Take my family for example. I wear Nike; and my mum loves Chanel. What these products have in common are a foreign brand outside and a “made in China” label inside. Even though all the products are produced in China, our selling agency pay around 80% of the profit, namely brand fee, to the foreign company. Brand culture, a soft power, is now an essential factor to the rejuvenation of our country. We can only be slaves of the world and imitators of science, unless we can find our own culture and switch from “made in china” to “invented in china”.
Q1：What role does science play in China’s switch from “made in China” to “Invented in China”?
Q2: Many advanced countries switch their heavily polluted industries to China, why does Chinese government still encourages this foreign investment? What are the possible reasons?
Fortunately, Chinese people are now realizing the importance of our own culture. As Lu Xun says “what can best represent our nation is what we can call global”. Yes, anything with distinctive Chinese feature is considered to be a treasure to the world. Chinese pop singers, Han Hong, Zhou Jielun, are now gaining their popularity by adding traditional factors to their music. They use the singing method of Peking opera, Kun Qu, and some traditional instruments, like pipa, ma tou qing. The newly made music turned out to be a great hit both home and abroad like a retreat away from the turmoil of the modern world.
Q3: Are Han Hong and Zhou Jielun modern singers? How do you classify modern music and classical music?
Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest resource of our nation lies in culture of our ancestors and contemporary China, not the one-million bills for patents. If science can be learnt form the textbook, then culture can only be accumulated by time; if science is universally standard, then it is culture that makes the world a diverse one; if science is the tool to make dream come true, then culture is our dream.
