Achieving balance and simplicity is much easier said than done for most people. We forget to remind ourselves to step back, breathe, and appreciate the simple things when we’re constantly on auto-pilot(机械状态), working ourselves to the bone, and falling victim to overwhelming stress and pressure.

对大多数人来说,简单而平衡的生活是说着容易做着难。当我们不停地处于某种机械状态拼命工作,成为那势不可挡的种种压力的牺牲品时,我们忘了提醒自己应该后退一步,喘口气并且欣赏一下我们周围那些简单的东西。

For me, achieving balance and simplicity is all about making it a habit to do so. It is habitual for me to consider play to be just as necessary as work, make time for the things that matter most in my life, and cut myself some slack(松弛) when I recognize that I’m putting too much pressure on myself.

在我看来,要想简单地平衡地生活,就得让简单与平衡成为习惯。我自认为休闲和工作同等重要,要为生命至爱腾出时间,并且,一旦自我压力太大,我会尽量放松。

I can easily turn into a reactive and overwhelmed basketcase(歇斯底里) if I get too anxious, emotional, or stressed out. My mental health and overall well-being is important to me – and making balance a priority(优先考虑的事) in my life typically leads to that good mental health and overall well-being.

过于紧张、焦虑或情绪化时,我会变得过激而歇斯底里。身心健康对我而言很重要。现在,我之所以如此健康,是因为把平衡当成了生活中最重要的事。

Asking yourself the following questions will help you get clear on your priorities, be honest with yourself, and hopefully, make steps towards a more balanced and simple life.

Am I taking care of myself? Sometimes we get so wrapped up in taking care of others that we forget to take care of ourselves. It can be so easy to leave ourselves behind. Identify any areas of your life where you may be neglecting your health or happiness. What steps can you take to make self-care more of a priority?

1. 我对自己够好吗?

有时,我们会因忙于照顾别人而忘了自己。委屈自己太容易了。找出那些你可能会忽视自己健康或快乐的地方,想想怎样才能对自己更好?

Do I have too much clutter? Drowning ourselves in too many material possessions can ultimately lead to stress. Get clear on what you absolutely need and what you can get rid of.

2. 我是不是有太多乱七八糟的东西?把自己淹没在太多的物质需要中最终会导致压力。要弄清楚你真正需要什么,应该清除什么。

Do I take time out of my day purely for myself? We all need a little “me time.” Set aside some time every day to just relax and do something that you enjoy, whether that is reading, meditating, watching TV, cooking, spending quality time with your loved ones, etc.

3. 我是否每天都有完全属于自己的时间?

每个人都需要一点儿“自我时间”。每天留一点时间给自己放松放松,做自己喜欢的事情,比如读书、冥想、看电视、做菜或跟爱人共享时光等等。

Am I eating healthy? The types of foods we eat can greatly affect how we feel both physically and emotionally.

Eating too much junk food can lead to crankiness and a relatively low energy level, whereas eating healthy foods can lead to better moods and a more positive energy level. Take a look at your own eating habits and see if there is a certain one that you can improve or eliminate(消除,排除) altogether.

 4. 我吃得健康吗?饮食会极大影响人们的身心健康。吃太多垃圾食品会让人变得乖戾且萎靡不振,而健康食品则能让人心情愉悦、生机勃勃。仔细审视你的饮食习惯,看看能否有所改善提高。

What are my core values? What is important to you as an individual? Is it family, health, spirituality, work, etc.? Make sure that you are living in alignment(保持一致) with what matters most to you.

 5. 我的核心价值何在?

作为独立个体,对你而言什么最重要?是家庭、健康、精神、工作还是其他?

你要确保为自己在乎的一切而活。

Am I maintaining healthy relationships? Is there a relationship in your life that needs a little extra care and attention? Do you need to right a wrong with someone?

Try to stay aware of how you’re treating the people in your life.

6. 我的人际关系健康吗?

生活中,你与某人的关系是否有待改善?你是否需要解决与某人的误会?

请时刻对自己与周围人的关系保持清醒。

Am I working too hard? Taking time to re-charge and spend time on activities that make you happy is so important. Honor your desire to pull back from work or school pressure when needed and give yourself time to breathe, even if it’s only for a few minutes at a time. 7. 我工作是否过于卖力?

Am I playing too hard? A lack of motivation to accomplish certain things can throw you off balance or make you feel stressed out and pressured later on. Taking breaks is very necessary, but if you take so many breaks that your productivity level drops, or you get into the habit of procrastinating too much, it might be time to balance out your schedule so that you will get a generous amount of things done and still have time for breaks and leisure.

 8. 我是否玩心过重?

缺乏追求成功的动力也会让你失去平衡,使你感到压力重重。休息当然有必要,但休息过头却会降低你的效率,甚或让你养成拖延的坏毛病。此刻,最好根据计划做实事,这样才能劳逸结合。

Am I spending too much? Overspending can lead to stress, clutter, and financial complications. It can also turn into a nasty habit over time.

Distinguish your wants from your needs and try to maintain a healthy balance between the two. Saving money is an excellent practice and you will more than likely be glad you did in case of an emergency.

 9. 我是否花钱大手大脚?

花钱大手大脚会造成压力、混乱及经济问题,而且,这会变成恶习。

Am I worrying about the future? Worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet causes stress and anxiety. Focus on the moment in front of you and realize that it is all that exists.

Am I dwelling on the past? It is very tempting and almost involuntary to look back on the past and obsess over something we regret or something we miss. Learn to let go and only focus on what’s happening right now, and on the choices you will make today.

11. 我会因过去的事情耿耿于怀吗?

人们不经意间就会回想起过去,陷入或后悔或怀念的回忆中去。请学会放手,专注当下的一切、当下该做的决定吧。

Is there something I am clinging to? We don’t always realize when we’re clinging to something harmful when it feels safe and familiar, whether it is an unfulfilling job, an unhealthy relationship, or a stagnant way of life. Recognize if you are clinging to something that isn’t serving you and work on taking small steps towards change and release.

12 .我是否对某事固守不放?

当人们固守着某件事情的时候,因为习惯和安稳,不会轻易觉得它有害。比如,一份不开心的工作,一段不健康的关系,或一成不变的生活方式。想想自己是否在固守着没用的东西,然后一步步采取措施,把它剔除出去吧。
