Reflection

After I have finished reading this article, there are too many things I have great feelings of. Firstly, I think Brown & Adamson have some similar ideas on being a good language teacher. They both emphasize the importance of experience and practice. They suppose that experience should be divided into three parts: learning from other‟s experience, learning the received knowledge, and learning from one‟s own experience. They also point out that practice is crucial in teaching, and the sense of practice is the real classroom teaching that a teacher after he/she finishes formal education.
In addition, I find Brown‟s idea of “dynamic” approach is interesting, for it vividly describes the present situation of the education. The“dynamic”approach should change with the ever-deepening of our understanding of teaching and learning, and with the ever-changing needs of the society, education, of students, and of the teaching requirements.Hence, in order to cater to this changeable situation, one must keep on learning, practicing and reflecting.
Last but not least, I feel becoming a good teacher is hard work because a good teacher should own professional competence. However, as Adamson refers to, professional competence is „a moving target or horizon, towards which professional travel all their professional life but which is never attained.‟ What‟s more, Brown also mentions the best teachers always take a few calculated risks in the classroom, trying new activities here and there. So, a good teacher should have the innovative spirit. As far as I can see, it‟s not easy to meet these requirements. If you really dream of becoming a good teacher, you must pay for it.
