My Idea of a University Arts Festival The Arts Festival is supposed to provide the students with a platform on which they can show their strong abilities they don’t show when they are sitting in the classroom and play the role of students. In my opinion, the student union may organize the Arts Festival in the form of competition and the competition can be widely ranged according to the interests of students.(论点)
There are mainly two reasons for my idea. To begin with, the students are ambitious groups. (中心句1) Competition can spice the Festival and stimulate the desires of the students to show themselves without hesitation and reservation. They can demonstrate their best parts in the competition. Moreover, a platform provided for students’ interests may indirectly help their academic performance. (中心句2) Suppose a student who performs poorly in his academic life wins a competition, he is likely to start to hold a positive attitude toward himself: I am not as inferior as I have believed. His confidence is strengthened to some degree and this plays an active role in his study. In this way, the Arts Festival helps the student in his studies indirectly.
To sum up, the Arts Festival is not only an important forming part of the extracurricular activities of university students’ campus lives but also a necessary complement to the copied lives of study. Therefore, it is the purpose of Arts Festival that can make the college life colorful and benefit the university students spiritually.

Recently a Beijing information company did a survey of student life among more than 700 students, and the results have shown that 67 percent students think that saving money is a good habit, while the rest believe using tomorrow’s money today is better. For me, I agree with the latter point of view.
One major advantage of using tomorrow’s money today is that people can enjoy a lot of nice things which they cannot enjoy today owing to their limited financial condition. Most people may have heard of the story about a Chinese old lady and an lived in it comfortably, then spent the rest of her life paying the loan. In the story, the results are the same---they both bought an apartment, but their life experiences are radically different; the former hardly lived in the house for she had spent all her life saving money for it, while the latter enjoyed living there for quite a long time because she “ used tomorrow’s money today”. we can clearly see that the latter’s choices of lifestyle is much better than the former’s Then, why don’t we use tomorrow’s money for today’s comfort?
To conclude, I think using tomorrow’s money today is much better than saving money all day as we can have many nice things in life which we cannot buy it with our present income. Therefore, why not use tomorrow’s money today?

Is it wise to make friends online? People’s views about this issue vary from one to another. Some people think that it is unwise to make friends online while others think that there is nothing wrong with online friends. The reasons are mainly as follows.
First of all, it is easy and quick to get to know people and make new friends online. We know friends are indispensable in our daily life but they cannot stay with us wherever we go. For many people, especially college freshmen, leaving friends and the security of home for a new place where they don’t know anyone can be overwhelming. With some online chatting tools such as QQ and MSN, they can talk to people they like and find people with common interests easily. In addition, online friends can help broaden our knowledge about different cultures and customs. Chatting with people from different places and social backgrounds is surely an effective way to understand other cultures and develop cross-cultural communication skills. We can also practice our English in speaking and writing.
To sum up, making friends online is amazing. In the online global community we can enjoy an active social life with rewarding experience, so it is wise to make online friends.

The Benefits of Volunteering (2008)
Volunteering has grown into a fashion these years, with volunteers ranging from college students to white collar workers. It is reported now China has 4.5 million registered volunteers having provided more than 4.5 billion hours of volunteer work. Why would so many people like to do volunteer work? Are there any benefits of volunteering? The answer is absolutely yes. As far as I am concerned, volunteering is necessary for the development of college students.
First of all, through volunteering we can gain more experiences. Whatever volunteering work we do, either being a volunteer teacher for a village school or a volunteer worker in a retired house, we can taste different lifestyles and broaden our horizon. For example, last summer, I worked as a volunteer in a summer school where I taught those children from poor families. Although I got no pay, I learned how to be a good teacher to the children.
